We are so obsessed with this Outer Banks daddy daughter swim session! I love that they chose to do a little something different than your traditional outer banks family beach portrait. No matching outfits here, just fun swimming and splashing around. Enjoy a few of our favorites from this Outer Banks beach portrait family session!
Today we’re going to talk about something we don’t always like to bring up when it comes to Outer Banks beach portraits. RAIN!
What do you do if it rains the evening of your OBX family session?
The answer is simple! We almost always reschedule for the following morning OR if Friday evening is available we’ll bump you to then. We never call or cancel an OBX beach portrait unless it’s physically raining at the time of your outer banks family photography session. The weather on the Outer Banks changes constantly and we almost always can wait it out 10-15 minutes and it clears right up! Between Madeline and myself, we are generally both booked Monday through Thursday for Outer banks family photography. We try our very best to leave Friday’s open (unless we have a wedding) but 9 times out of 10, we’re bumping your group to the next morning. This is why it is so important to always hire a professional photographer for your outer banks beach portrait. With the sun sometimes being high and bright in the mornings, it an be tricky to shoot an outer banks family sessions on the beach! Luckily you’ve got us to get you covered! You’ll want to give yourself flexibility with in the week so that this is possible!
Below is a beautiful outer banks photography session we photographed in Corolla, NC this past summer. It was the perfect example of how we had to postpone their outer banks beach portrait evening time spot until the morning. The skies that morning in Corolla, NC were gray and beautiful with soft light. Perfect for OBX family photos!
So obsessed with these golden hour maternity photos we photographed in Nags Head North Carolina. Sometimes it’s nice to stray away from our traditional Outer Banks Beach Portraits and shoot something different that keeps us on our toes! This sunset beach portrait session in Nags Head was perfect. The golden hour hues were simply to die for. Summer is coming to a close but we’re still booking many outer banks family sessions so make sure to get your family on the calendar! Looking forward to finishing out this outer banks season strong!
In the summer on the Outer Banks we are early risers! We love sunrise sessions! Sunrise on the Outer Banks beaches displays some of the most beautiful soft light ever! Perfect for that golden glow for your outer banks beach portrait session. We loved these photos so much! This little family of 3 was the perfect subject for such an early morning in Corolla, NC Definitely check out some of our favorites from their outer bank beach portrait!
I am so in love with these outer banks beach portraits at Coquina Beach in Nags Head, NC! You never know what type of sky or weather you’re going to get during your family beach session, but this night in Nags Head did not disappoint! We dealt with wind, rain, and a gorgeous blue sky marked with the most stunning rainbow! Definitely check out these images from one of our more recent Outer Banks Beach Portrait sessions!
Today we’re talking about our favorite 4-legged friends and their roll during your Outer Banks beach portrait! We know it’s tradition for many of you to include your pups in your outer banks family session and we couldn’t be more stoked to be photographing them! I am personally a huge dog lover! If you follow my Instagram account @sarahdambraphoto you’ll find that while I’m all business and photography on my posts, my Insta stories are practically a play by play of both of my dogs at home each day! We love dogs and we LOVE having them accompany us during our outer banks beach portrait sessions. Here are a few tips to help you out if you’re thinking about brining your fur baby to the beach!
It’s January! And here I am writing a blog post about Outer Banks Beach Portraits. You’d think it’d be way too early to start talking about those, but it seems like our inquiries and reservations start earlier and earlier for family beach portraits each year. I wanted to share a few things as we enter 2019 on how to prep your family so that we can provide your group with the best outer banks beach portrait experience. Here are a few tips!
Keep in mind that we only photograph beach portrait sessions early in the morning or 1 hour before sunset. This is so the we can offer your family the absolute best lighting for photos. You have to remember there is NO SHADE on the beach whatsoever, the unbelievable number of rainbow umbrellas and beach tents lined up on the beach that can’t be magically photoshopped out, the heat and humidity can be unbearable, the squinting, the sweating, the sand sticking to you… sounds like a recipe for disaster right? These are just a few of the reasons why we insist on early morning (sunrise) or later in the evenings! The light is soft and pretty and the bulk of your beach combers have retreated for the day. As a general rule, summer beach portraits are ideally shot around 7:00PM (depending on the month) We know this can be SO hard on your little guys as many of your kids have early bed times! So here are a few helpers to help you get through the evening beach portrait session:
This is YOUR investment, and we want this to be a fun and enjoyable experience for your family while you’re on vacation! With that being said: Leave all of your personal cameras and cellphones back at the vacation house! You won’t need them! Remember you’ve hired us to take the photos! And a big part of your beach portrait (once the formalities are over) is for us to be able to candidly capture you family at their most vulnerable and real selves… We won’t be able to do that when 6 people in your group have their cell phones or personal DSLR’s in their hand.
And finally the last thing I want to touch on is the type of photos we take and the overall flow of how you can expect your outer banks family portrait session to play out!
Another wonderful summer of Outer Banks Beach Portraits is upon us! Today we are stoked to be sharing this family beach portrait session from Nags Head, NC. We love shooting outer banks beach portraits at Coquina Beach access because of the natural dune line it offers! Hitting this spot at sunset is perfect, but it’s also a great location for a morning session as well. Definitely take a few minutes to check out this stunning family at their outer banks beach portrait session!
We love shooting in Corolla, NC! Check out these awesome family portraits from one of our sessions earlier this month in Corolla!
